Academic Activities 2020 – 2021

Event 1:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry along with NSS teamed to conduct an online quiz in COVID – 19 in a duration of 21st May to 25th May 2020. The quiz was aimed to create awareness about COVID -19 and ensure our safety living. The quiz consisted of 20 questions for a total of 25 marks and participants secured 50% and above were appreciated with an e-certificate. The certificate issued was duly signed by Dr. M. D. Lakshmi Priya, Program organizer, Dr. J. Thirumagal, Head of the Department and NSS Program officer and Dr. M. Valarmathy, Principal.

Event 2:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry conducted National Webinar on “Current scenario in Applied Sciences” on 31.07.2020. Dr. Arul Amudhan, Team Leader, Division of Siddha, Asst. Prof. in Pharmacology, Manipal, Udupi was the chief guest and gave a special lecture on “Improving Immunity through Siddha herbs during COVID – 19 scenario”. The lecture emphasized on the important role played by Siddha system of Medicine in the prevention and management.

Event 3:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry organized Guest lecture on Glucose tolerance test to UG final year Biochemistry students on 12.01.2021. Prof. R. Malarkodi, Head and Asst. Prof. in Biochemistry, Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women, Vaniyambadi was the guest for the session. Students interacted with the speaker after the class and gained enough information on the topic.

Event 4:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry organized Guest lecture on “Muscle Physiology” to UG final year Biochemistry students on 20.01.2021. Prof. K. Sheela, Asst. Prof. in Biochemistry, Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women, Vaniyambadi was the guest for the session. The students got their doubts clarified at the end of the session.

Event 5:

Biochemistry Association of KMG College of Arts and Science, organized Herbal Gardening Program “Creating awareness about herbs and herbal garden” on 20.02.21. Students of our college were engaged in maintaining herbal garden in the campus, which is not only a relaxing hobby but has indeed become important.

Event 6:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry organized an International level special lecture on 27.01.2021. Dr. K. SENTHILKUMAR, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Post doctoral fellow, School of Chinese medicine,Baptist University, Hong Kong (SAR), Chinna was the chief guest and gave a special lecture on the topic “Gene cloning techniques and its applications”. The interactive session was well appreciated by the students and helped them to understand the concept clearly. The guest also encouraged the students to pursue higher education and enroll themselves in research activities.

Event 7:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry conducted Skill based training program in “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION “on 25.02.2021. PROF. N. VENUGOPAL (TRAINER), Dept of B.C.A,  K.M.G. College of Arts and Science was the trainer and gave training on “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION “. This training is believed to encourage the students to perform mushroom farming and become a small scale entrepreneur, bridge socio-economic issues and improve health.

Event 8:

Biochemistry Association of KMG College of Arts and Science organized “Waste Management-Compost Making” program on 26.02.2021. Composting is an easy method of converting the waste in to manure which involves breaking down of food and kitchen waste into organic matter in the presence of air and water. This compost rich in nutrients can be used to grow healthy plants in the garden.

Event 9:

PG and Research Department of Biochemistry conducted one day program on “Millets and its importance” on 05.03.2021. Our college Principal Dr. M. Valarmathy addressed the gathering by giving a lecture on the topic “Millets and its nutritional importance for healthy life”.  Students participated with full enthusiasm which proved that younger generations are aware of our traditional healthy foods and recipes and not a mere junk food lovers. Students were given special gifts from the principal and bagged lot of appreciation from all the teaching and non-teaching faculties.
